Colombian bassoonist Juliana Mesa Jaramillo is currently the WYSO Music Makers Membership Coordinator and a Bassoonist in Black Marigold Wind Quintet.
Juliana is a Doctoral Candidate in Bassoon Performance at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a University Fellow, and Teaching Assistant and the winner of the 2016 Irving Shain Woodwind/Piano Competition. Juliana was Principal bassoon at the EAFIT Symphony Orchestra for five years in Medellin-Colombia and the bassoon instructor at the Medellin Philharmonic Academy for three years.
On top of her orchestral activities, she has performed as a soloist and recitalist in her native Colombia as well as around the USA. She is a passionate pedagogue as well as a fervent advocate of bringing music to places where it is usually not present.
